About me
I am an Assistant Professor in the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston. I received a Ph.D. in Journalism and Media from The University of Texas at Austin.
My research interests broadly revolve around various forms of mediated communication processes in the changing media environment, especially related to their impacts on democratically and socially desirable (or undesirable) outcomes. Specifically, my scholarly work addresses the current epistemic crisis compounded by eroding public trust in the news media and false information circulating on social media—intentionally promoted (i.e., disinformation) or accidentally shared (i.e., misinformation).
My work has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, such as New Media & Society, Internatial Journal of Press/Politics, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mass Communication and Society, International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Health Communication, Media and Communication, and Computers in Human Behavior.
Prior to starting my career in academia, I spent seven years as a newspaper reporter in South Korea. My reporting was recognized with national honors.
